The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) is a global community that shapes how the internet works. It relies on volunteer-led working groups to develop and maintain Internet standards. IETF leadership saw room for improvement in how these working groups operated. The challenge was to create a training program for these volunteer leaders that emphasized the IETF’s collaborative and egalitarian culture.
Ricochet stepped up to design a training program that respected IETF’s unique way of doing things. We knew we couldn’t just impose standard corporate training methods; we had to create something that fit IETF’s collaborative spirit. The solution was a live, interactive training program delivered across three global time zones, ensuring accessibility for volunteers around the world.
Through six engaging classes, a Ricochet facilitator guided participants – both new and experienced leaders – through lively discussions and debates. We blended established leadership best practices with IETF’s own time-tested traditions, creating a learning experience that was both informative and respectful of IETF’s culture.
All classes were recorded, allowing IETF to repurpose the content for future training sessions. The result? A more effective and efficient IETF, empowered to continue its vital work of shaping the internet’s future.
