ASCO Plans Strategic Membership Overhaul

ASCO had a new membership model but no rollout plan, so Ricochet built a two-and-a-half-year plan with nine initiatives to help members understand and accept the change.

What was holding ASCO back?

The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) has a network of more than 50,000 oncology professionals. After years of study, it had crafted a strategic vision that reshaped its membership offering, from benefits to dues. The plan did not address how ASCO would put those changes into action. The new model was complex, with 48 benefits and multiple membership types, plus many dues rates and discounts. ASCO turned to Ricochet for help.

What did Ricochet build?

Ricochet assessed whether ASCO could communicate the changes to members and the market. The team weighed the risks: would members understand the changes and accept them, and could ASCO staff handle the rollout? Ricochet found ASCO needed to support the rollout internally while building awareness and acceptance. The team created nine major initiatives on a two-and-a-half-year timeline. It also recommended a project team structure and built a chart to keep everyone on track.

What changed for ASCO's members?

With a plan for awareness and acceptance in place, ASCO members can learn about the new benefits and dues in stages rather than all at once. The two-and-a-half-year timeline gives members time to understand a complex model. ASCO completed its model change approvals and moved forward with confidence that its staff could support members through the rollout.
