What was holding Smithbucklin back?

The events industry was turned upside down in 2020. Smithbucklin, a major association management and events company, produced 72 virtual events that year and over 100 virtual or hybrid events in 2021. That made it a leading authority on virtual events, but its lessons lived with the staff who ran them. Smithbucklin partnered with Ricochet to capture that experience and chart a course for future events.

What did Ricochet do?

Ricochet ran seven internal listening sessions with over 40 Smithbucklin employees who had worked on the front lines of these events. We distilled their experience, from financial models to overall event business strategy, into an 18-page research paper. The paper identified three major shifts reshaping events and included best-practice checklists. It also featured success stories from Smithbucklin clients and an early glossary of new virtual event terms.

What changed for Smithbucklin's members?

Smithbucklin's clients now benefit from a written roadmap for virtual and hybrid events, built from the hands-on experience of the staff who produce them. The best-practice checklists and client success stories give the people planning those events a shared starting point. The research looks forward as well as back, so Smithbucklin can plan future events with a clear view of where the industry is going.
